The North American Taiko Conference (NATC) is a biennial event, alternating locations between Los Angeles and other western-US cities. The conference has become an essential element of the taiko community, with workshops and discussion sessions for players of all levels. NATC also features public performances featuring a wide variety of taiko groups. The conference is attended by virtually all of the taiko community’s leaders, along with hundreds of players from around the world.
In an effort to bring the worldwide taiko community together, the first World Taiko Gathering was held in downtown Los Angeles in July 2014. The group Taiko Project and the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center presented the event which featured taiko workshops, discussion sections and performances by attendees and volunteers from Japan, Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, Australia, Spain, New Zealand, Canada, and the U.K. Maui Taiko delegates were inspired by the growth of taiko throughout the world and gained new insights to share with the group.
